friday afternoon purse-puppy fix

Met this little guy in Starbucks today:

We are best friends now.

Hey also – did you know that if you follow me via email, you can comment on my posts by simply hitting “reply” to the post email you receive (you are probably reading from it right now)? My adorable husband figured that out.

Did you know that if you don’t follow me via email, you can easily do so by entering your email address in the little box to the right of the screen? Go ahead, give it a try.

Just some nifty advice I thought you might want to know on this lovely Friday.

Hoping for some fall weather in the near future for you.

the pioneer woman baked french toast

Sooo I made this today.

And it was as good as it looks. Baked French Toast by none other than The Pioneer Woman. Have I told you that I love her?

I toned down the sugar content a bit, because I tend to like things a bit less sugary, and it still tasted amazing. I mean, you still add butter and syrup on top of it so there’s really no shortage of flavor.

Oh, and I added blueberries to half of it, to spice things up a bit per Ree’s recommendation. Both sides were fabulous.

Super easy, delicious way to impress new friends. I highly recommend it. I’m not going to print the recipe here because you can click on the link above (or the picture) and she does it better. I’m not even going to pretend I had anything to do with this deliciousness. I just follow directions.

Hope your tummy is as happy as mine on this lovely Thursday.

ready for fall

Can I tell you one thing I’m ready for now that I live up North? Fall. And then winter. My poor sweaters have been locked away in my closet for months, and we’re all ready for them to come out of retirement.

I’ve been spending some time on Pinterest the past few days. I used it constantly when I was engaged but perhaps outdid it a bit, so I haven’t been back for a while. I forgot what I was missing. It’s a buffet of beautiful things.

In case you don’t know me, I like sweaters, and scarves, and leggings, and boots. And these pictures make me a happy girl. I can’t wait to be the third girl, actually needing winter garments because there is actual winter weather occurring around me. Okay, I may not look as cute as she does, but you can bet I’ll be as happy as she looks.

One thing I’m trying to change about my wardrobe is the lack of color in my closet. But I mean, come on…black and white just look so good.

And man, if you want to make me the happiest girl in the world, buy me that motorcycle jacket. I’d die.

I just can’t wait to cuddle up in my over-sized sweater with a coffee-filled mug watching the snow fall outside my window. What can I say, I’m a December baby through and through. Bring it on, Massachusetts.

Oh hey p.s. do you like my collages? Because I made them quickly and easily with Picasa! Wow I sound like a TV commercial. But it’s true, it’s fun and it makes you feel really talented.

DIY! and a puppy fix.

Sooo I have to admit that I’ve never been much of a DIY-er. I love the idea of it, but in practice, it’s not really my strong suit. I’d much rather find something that someone else has already DIY-ed, or honestly I’d rather have something old and cool than something re-done.

But yesterday, I mentioned our need for a mini-ottoman now that we can’t put our feet up on the coffee table from our club chairs, and I had a very specific idea of what I wanted it to look like. Marshall’s response was “so basically a mini table with a pillow on top of it,” in typical man form. But in his defense, he was correct.

So he suggested (yes, he suggested) that we run over to some antique shops looking for a mini table to upholster. And we found one! Well, we actually found one that already had upholstery on it, so we are just going to add some batting and re-upholster it.

My only problem is that I’m struggling a wee little bit over the fabric. I’m on my second set of swatches. I believe I’ve decided on something reddish, but (another reason DIY intimidates me) I’m really picky, and if I don’t like something, I’m never going to like it, so I have to make sure I love the fabric! I made the mistake of taking Marshall with me to the fabric store yesterday. Neither of us will ever make that mistake again, I can assure you.

Hopefully soon I will be able to show you the end product, but for now I have a little red table with old, faded flowers on top of it.

Oh, and here’s your puppy fix:

She went to the lake the other day with her adopted daddy, Mikie. Seems like she’s got a pretty good set-up down there!
